About us

Thornbury Women's Neighbourhood House started in 1986. We are a community-based centre offering programs for women and children living and working in the City of Darebin. We are funded by the City of Darebin, Department of Human Services and Adult, Community and Further Education.

Thornbury Women's Neighbourhood House offers a friendly environment for women to learn new skills, find information about the local community, meet other women, gain support or participate in one of our many activities which celebrate our diverse community.

Thornbury Women's Neighbourhood House is a recognised training provider and offer a wide range of nationally accredited training courses.

Community Partners

  • Anxiety Disorders Association of Victoria (AdaVic)
    Panic and anxiety information sessions with guest speakers such as psychologists working in the field. Topics such as medication, stress relief, cognitive behavioural techniques, breathing and relaxation.
  • Northern Parent Support Program Parents of children with disabilities and/or challenging behaviours. Mothers support meeting and family outings, information and referral.
  • Friends Of Baucau City of Darebin/ Yarra Friendship project with Baucau in East Timor. Thornbury Women's Neighbourhood House supports women's development projects by participating in fund raising and planning activities.
  • Work Force Placement Services
    Communications based programs for women with mental health issues.
  • WHIN ( Women's Health in the North) and NEAMI (North East Alliance for the Mentally Ill)
    Development of women's literacy and well being program for women with mental health issues.
  • Migrant Resource Centre
    Outreach ESL programs for women asylum seekers and refugees
